Tschüss, Adiós and Goodbye

Time really does fly. It’s February, and that means that my time with Canary Green is sadly coming to an end. To refresh your memories, I arrived here in the middle of September, full of energy, motivation, and simply excited to start this journey. And let me tell you right now, it was such an amazing one.

I undertook this internship as part of my studies. I study International Tourism Management in Germany, and part of the program is a 20-week internship. I, of course, decided I wanted to escape the cold German winter and become part of this amazing team at Canary Green. The escape part I did really well; while my friends back home were freezing at 0 degrees, I was lounging at the beach and kayaking in the ocean.

And the part about becoming a member of the amazing Canary Green team was simply rewarding. When I arrived in September, a new team kind of formed with Selina, Valeria, and me. Shortly after, Anastasia and Vincent joined, and it was us five for a while. In December, we received reinforcements from our two businessmen, Dorijan and Habib, and Anna joined us as a sustainable marketing professional. All of these people have amazing ideas and a unique skill set, which made this team unstoppable.

I wanted to bring my passion for sustainable tourism, especially sustainable hotels, into the Canary Green project, and so I became the Sustainable Hotels and Tourism Development Manager. I helped build our directory “Discover Canary Islands” with new sustainable hotels and delved into research about sustainable cleaning products.

During my time here, we started two major projects: Our CANARY BLUE project, concerning the health of our oceans and including initiatives like workshops, beach clean-ups, and research, and the SUSTAINABLE GANGSTERS, our soon-to-be-launched membership. I am really proud to be part of the start of these two initiatives, and I am beyond excited to see what the future holds for them.

Even though my time here is coming to an end, I will carry the experiences I’ve had and the things I’ve learned with me, wherever I go. The next step now is going home, working, and traveling for a bit before I start my master’s in the fall. Where has yet to be decided.

My time here was full of dancing, celebrating, going to the beach, meeting amazing and inspiring people, and above all, being part of the extraordinary Canary Green Team. I want to say a huge thank you to you, John, for bringing me into your team and always believing in me!

“Always leave on a high note.” And that’s what I’m doing. So, Tschüss, Adiós, and Goodbye!

Jette
